The provision of meals within a prison establishment requires the construction of highly robust commercial kitchen facilities, providing meals for up to 2000 inmates, 7 days a week. These units are generally staffed with inmates providing training as well as daily cooking.

Caledonian’s designs take advantage of off-site construction methods, employing modular units with concrete floors. This allows a high degree of fit out to be completed in modular manufacturing facility, minimizing the site construction time. Combining modular and traditional techniques into one structure Caledonian has been able to reduce an on site construction period of over 52 weeks for traditional concrete construction methods to 20 weeks, whilst also reducing the overall capital cost. Caledonian’s steel and concrete structure achieves all the robustness requirements of this harsh environment whilst delivering BREEAM excellent performance.
