Ministry of Defence

Caledonian is a primary provider of permanent accommodation buildings for the Ministry of Defence. With a long history of design and construction of single living accommodation, Caledonian’s design teams are fully conversant with all MoD standards (eg. JSP scales, DMGs etc.) and are able to develop compliant building designs which achieve the user needs within any specific regime or establishment. Solutions for all levels of counter terrorist construction have been developed and Caledonian is able to act as Principle Contractor and “building only” subcontractor within all military establishments.

Operating under various partnering contracts and PFI structures, dedicated MoD business units within Caledonian have long experience of Prime Contracting and Integrated Project Teams. Within the SLAM (Single Living Accommodation Modification) programme several supply chain partners are co-located at Caledonian’s base in Newark, Notts., and dedicated manufacturing facilities are aligned to the construction of service accommodation across a wide number of MoD establishments in the UK.

The benefits of technical compliance combined with extremely rapid build times and reduced disruption for the military bases during the construction process, are significant. Up to 75% of the build process is contained within the Caledonian factory, reducing the number of construction personnel at the construction site by over 70% vs traditional construction techniques – dramatically simplifying security, congestion and disruption issues.

Caledonian have delivered over 4000 units of accommodation for MoD establishments plus offices and ancillary buildings.
